In the next 18 months, Bill Gates of Microsoft predicts that AI chatbots could be used to help kids improve their reading and writing. OpenAI\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s ChatGPT and Google\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Bard are already able to compete with human intelligence on some tests.

Teaching writing has usually been a challenge for computers, since they can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t think like people. But AI chatbots can understand and replicate human language.

Kevin Roose used ChatGPT to get better at writing, and some academics are impressed with chatbots\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' ability to summarize text and write essays. Before chatbots can be good tutors, they need to get better at reading and understanding human language, and motivating students.

Even though it may be unexpected, chatbots are better at reading and writing than math.
Computers can give the answer to a math equation if it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s already in the datasets they use to learn, but working out their own solution is more difficult. Gates is sure the technology will improve within the next two years and thinks it will make it easier for people to get tutoring, even if they can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t afford it.

Some free chatbot versions are already out there, and Gates predicts that more advanced ones will be available for a fee, but still more affordable than one-on-one tutoring with a human.
